Il prossimo film di Elvis si chiamerà “Tickle Me” e sarà prodotto da Ben Schwalb per la Allied Artits e diretto da Norman Taurog.
Elvis riceverà $ 750.000 che equivale a più di metà del budget di spesa per il film, oltre al 50% dei profitti. Poiché la Allied si trova in difficoltà finanziarie, onde evitare di informare sull’aumento dei costi per portare Elvis in studio di registrazione, il Colonnello architetta un nuovo schema per la colonna sonora. Pertanto, oggi, scrive una lettera ad Elvis in cui dice “Per questo film l’idea è di usare 10/12 canzoni che hai già registrato precedentemente e che sono già state pubblicate su album o su singoli 45rpm”. La bellezza di questo schema, spiega il Colonnello, è che così possono salvare sia tempo che denaro. L’unica cosa che deve fare Elvis è di dare il suo assenso, nel più breve tempo possibile. Elvis lascia l’Hilton Hotel alle 6 del mattino, insieme al Dr. Nick. Volano a Memphis, dove viene ricoverato al Maptist Memorial Hospital
Il concerto che doveva essere fatto questa sera, all’Hilton Hotel Las Vegas, Nevada, viene cancellato, insieme agli altri ulteriori 35, previsti in questo ingaggio.
L’Hilton di Las Vegas diffonde un comunicato in cui dice “Su disposizioni del suo medico, la parte restante di questo ingaggio di Elvis Presley è stato cancellato. La decisione è stata presa a causa di condizioni di salute precarie per eccessivo affaticamento, accentuatosi nelle ultime settimane. Il Sig, Presley è stato prontamente ricoverato all’ospedale di Memphis per accertamenti e riposo. I medici non ritiene ci siano motivi di allarmismo, ma tutto questo viene fatto a scopo preventivo”.
