In una lettera a Julian Aberbach della Hill and Range, il Colonnello spiega che ha in mano una trattativa, con Elvis e Vernon, per rappresentarlo per di 3 anni ed è molto impegnato a concludere un affare con un’etichetta più grande. Da fonti attendibili, ha saputo che nel 1955, le vendite di Elvis sono un po’ più di 100.00 copie. Questa lettera sembra essere il seguito di una precedente richiesta, da parte del Colonnello, di un supporto finanziario da parte di Aberbachs, acquistando il contratto di Elvis dalla Sun.
