Visto quanto è successo a Tahoe, per la prima volta, in famiglia e tra gli amici si parla dell’abuso che Elvis fa dei farmaci.

Viste le preoccupazioni del Colonnello e, in particolare di quelle di Vernon Presley, l’avvocato Ed Hookstratten inizia ad indagare per capire chi stia continuamente fornendo Elvis. Mettendo John O’Grady come investigatore, per alcune settimane, Hookstratten scopre che i principali fornitori sono tre medici e un dentista. Ci sono vari tentativi di minacce a questi dottori e bloccare le forniture, ma data assenza di collaborazione da parte della vittima principale, ogni tentativo si rivela inutile

Questo breve tour di Lake Tahoe, al Sahara Hotel è stato organizzato, per colmare gli show annullati a maggio.

Elvis va a Las Vegas con Sheila Ryan, per farsi curare dal Dr. Elias Ghahem. Questo medico si era già occupato di Elvis, nel 1972 durante il periodo dei concerti a Las Vegas

16-10-1974

Il Dr. Grahem prescrive ad Elvis degli accertamenti clinici per capire da cosa sono causati i suoi problemi intestinali, da cui si riscontra un’ulcera non curata, con problemi infiammatori di edema alla mucosa gastro-intestinale.

Elvis rimane in un’ala della casa del Dr. Grahem, sottoponendosi ad una profonda “cura del sonno” che consiste in un’ alimentazione liquida e sedativi, raccomandata dallo stesso dottore.

21-10-1974

Il Dr Grahem ordina una serie di analisi per determinare la causa dei problemi intestinali di Elvis. Gli esami stabiliscono l’esistenza di un’ulcera emorragica. Elvis rimane ricoverato in un’ala speciale della clinica del Dr. Grahem, riservata alle celebrità, per seguire una nuova “dieta del sonno” che consiste in nutrimento con liquidi e riposto assoluto, con il supporto di sedativi.

Elvis lascia Memphis in aereo non si sa se per andare a Palm Spring o Las Vegas

Elvis ottiene un prestito da The National Bank Of Commerce di $700.000 per finanziare un club di racquet-ball club che verrà chiamato The Presley Center Courts, facendo un’ipoteca su Graceland.

Con questo concerto Elvis apre un tour di 11 giorni con un compenso di $ 315.000 per fare aggiungere uno show alle 22 nei fine settimana, quindi il venerdì e il sabato dovrà fare due concerti a sera.

Durante questo concerto, John O’ Grady, l’investigatore privato con cui Elvis ha rapporti sin dal 1970, va a trovare Elvis e racconta “Mi sono sentito così preoccupato per lui, che ho pianto. Era grasso. Aveva dei blocchi motori che non gli permettevano di camminare…. Ho veramente pensato che stesse per morire”.

A seguito di questa esperienza O’ Grady e il legale di Elvis a Los Angeles, Ed Hookstratten, discuteranno la possibilità di far entrare Elvis in un programma di disintossicazione presso la Scripps Clinic di San Diego, ma la cosa non ha mai avuto un seguito.
