Quindici miglia a sud di Texarkana, Arkansas, Scotty Moore guida la Cadillac Fleetwood rosa e nera verso un veicolo che sta sorpassando un camion.

Scotty ritira la Cadillac con una spesa di $ 1.000 per la riparazione.

Elvis arriva tardi allo show a causa dell’incidente, così lo studente Carl “Cheesie” Nelson intrattiene il pubblico fino a che inizia lo show. In questo show ci sono anche Johnny Cash e Charlene Arthur. Ad un certo momento, all’inizio di Settembre, il nuovo aggiunto D.J. Fontana si ammala e mancherà nel gruppo, per oltre un mese

In un’intervista concessa prima dello show dichiara: “Non c’è niente di più importante dell’amore e il matrimonio. Però credo che un matrimonio, ora, danneggerebbe la mia carriera.”
Elvis si esibisce per 40 minuti. Tra la folla succedono delle risse e deve intervenire la polizia.

Durante questo show, Elvis spiega il risultato di una biopsia al fegato, alla quale si è recentemente sottoposto e poco dopo fa un imbarazzante monologo su vari argomenti personali, tra cui il suo rapporto con Priscilla (che era tra il pubblico insieme alla figlia Lisa Marie) quello che dicono i giornali e le voci sulle “droghe”

Elvis registra Love Me, Playing For Keeps, How Do You Think I Feel e How's The World Treating You alla Radio Recorders in Hollywood, CA. Questo è uno studio sul Santa Monica Boulevard. Qui, Elvis si è subito sentito a suo agio anche con il tecnico, Thorne Nogar. Lavorano dalle 13 alle 20 e registrano il materiale per il secondo album di Elvis e per il suo nuovo singolo. Non essendoci un pianista, le parti al piano vengono suonate da Gordon Stoker.
Il singolo Hound Dog è al 2° posto nella classificica U.S. ed Elvis vuole condiividere il suo successo con la famiglia, acquistando una Cadillac rosa a sua madre

Oltre ai suoi successi Elvis canta anche Fool’s All Of Fame, che è una nuova realizzazione della Sun, fatta da Rudi Richardson. Elvis dice alla folla che questo sarebbe stato il suo nuovo singolo, ma di fatto non l’inciderà mai. Allo spettacolo di Elvis assiste anche Jimi Hendrix

Elvis invia un telegramma a Colonnello, per chiedergli, se mentre è a New York può contattare la RCA perchè dia un messaggio ai fans “Non solo per ringraziarli di acquistare i miei dischi e la loro lealtà nei miei confronti, ma anche per l’aiuto che mi hanno dato per decidere il tipo di canzoni da cantare. Parlando con loro e leggendo le loro lettere ho potuto farmi un’idea di cosa amano. Sono profondamente grato a loro e voglio che lo sappiano. Quando uscirò dall’esercito e inciderò di nuovo, ascolterò sempre le loro idee, come facevo prima. Voglio solo far sapere ai miei fans, come mi sento.."

Il Colonnello scrive al Management III per lamentare un management lassista ed “alcune esperienze negative” successe nell’ultimo tour. Dopo aver espresso una dose di scetticismo sulla prosecuzione dell’associazione (gli effetti di questa operazione potranno essere meglio valutati nel 1972), di fatto cede e concede alla società creata per le promozioni di supportare un’azione per un milione di dollari, per un altro tour con 12 date, che inizierà a novembre.

Nella nuova casa di Manovale vengono portati effetti personali di Elvis e mobili, ma quando è a Los Angeles, lui continua a rimanere nella casa di Hillcrest, per il resto del mese.

Elvis si esibisce all’ Memorial Stadium, Spokane, WA.
Vestito con camicia, pantaloni neri, scarpe nere con lacci fosforescenti e la giaccia dorata, del vestito che gli aveva regalato il Colonnello, Elvis entra nello stadio a bordo di una Cadillac.
Nella seconda parte dello show, che include giocolieri, ballerini di tip tap, acrobati e comici, Elvis esegue 18 canzoni, davanti ad un pubblico di 12.500 persone

Elvis registra la colonna Sonora di It Happened All’ Worlds Fair, alla Radio Recorders, Hollywood. Canzoni: "Take Me To The Fair" "Happy Ending" e "Relax"

Poiché Elvis si è preso il raffreddore, alla MGM c’è molta preoccupazione che le riprese d’inizio del film, vengano rinviate. La session di registrazione della colonna sonora inizia alle 19.00 ma dopo poche ore viene annullata, perchè è evidente che Elvis sta male e ha difficoltà a cantare.
Il Colonnello rinegozia alcuni punti del contratto con la RCA, che, di fatto, è già stato definito lo scorso gennaio.
Nei due punti discussi sono uno in cui, sostanzialmente, si prevede une divisione tra Elvis e Parker al 50-50 e l’altro riguarda 1%, non rimborsabile, di royalties per tutte le vendite nazionali, che viene portato al 2% (oltre già esistente al 5% rimborsabile).
Inoltre, d’ora in poi, la RCA dovrà riconoscere un bonus di $ 100.000/anno per 3 anni, al di fuori delle royalties. A partire dal 1965, il bonus sarà ridotto a $ 75.000 all’anno.
La durata del contratto viene estesa fino al 31.12.1969, con un’opzione di prolungamento per altri 2 anni

La MGM vuole aggiungere un’altra canzone al film “Viva Las Vegas” e così Elvis registra la canzone di Ray Charles “What I’d Say” alla Radio Recorders di Hollywood.

Le riprese di “Double Troble” sono terminate.
La RCA decide di non aspettare fino alla fine del 1969 per mettere in atto le opzioni del contratto di Elvis e, pertanto, con oggi viene esteso fino a Dicembre 1974.

Protetti da un servizio di sicurezza organizzato dal Colonnello, i Beatles arrivano a far visita ad Elvis nella sua casa di Perugia Way. Nonostante tutte le precauzioni prese, centinaia di fans di radunano davanti ai cancelli della casa di Bel Air.
Quando i suoi ospiti arrivano, trovano Elvis seduto sul suo lungo divano bianco davanti alla televisione a volume inesistente. Dopo un po’ prende un basso ed inizia a strimpellare “Mohair Sam” una canzone di Charlie Rich che sta girando nel juke box. La conversazione che segue nelle roe successive è piuttosto sconnessa e i Beatles vanno a casa delusi e infastiditi. Nonostante questo, alcuni giorni dopo, John Lennon dice a Jerry Schilling che, per lui, la serata ha significato molto e prega Jerry di dire ad Elvis che “Se non fosse stato per lui, noi oggi non saremmo nessuno”

Elvis continua a passare molto tempo al ranch, ma anzichè correre a cavallo, ha trovato un nuovo hobby come il tiro al bersaglio e fare spese, acquistando fucili per tiro al bersaglio, piattelli, copri orecchie e altri accessori.
Alla fine di settembre deciderà di mettere in vendita il ranch.

Elvis inizia il suo 6° tour con una spettacolare performance, tanto da risollevare il morale anche alla band. Il Dr. Grahem sostituisce il Dr. Nichopoulos, anche se l’infermiera del Dr. Nick, Tish Hensley, è rimasta nel tour. All’inizio dell’anno l’infermiera si è trasferita in un trailer, dietro Graceland.
Sam Thompson, il fratello di Linda, dopo essersi licenziato dal Memphis Sheriff’ Departement (con un solo giorno di preavviso, con questo tour entra ufficialmente a far parte dell’entourage di Elvis, come capo della sicurezza insieme a Dick Grob, in sostituzione di Red e Sonny West.
A questo tour si unisce anche Larry Geller e diventa nuovamente parte dell’entourage, dopo essere stato cacciato nel 1967.
Negli ultimi mesi Larry ha passato sempre più tempo con Elvis. Ormai sono svanite tutte le antipatie verso Geller e persino il Colonnello è diventato più pragmatico.

Il rinnovato interesse per la spiritualità e la presenza di Larry Geller, rendono Elvis più felice, a vantaggio anche delle sue performances

Elvis dopo aver cantato Runaway, presenta Dell Shannon.

Nel Midnight show, registrato dalla RCA, Elvis non riesce a smettere di ridere durante l’esecuzione di “Are You Lonesome Tonight”, in cui invece di cantare “Fissi la soglia della porta e ti immagini di vedermi” dice “Fissi la tua parrucca e vorresti avere i capelli”
Secondo quanto racconta Red West la sua ilarità è determinata dal fatto che uno spettatore del pubblico ha perso il suo parrucchino ed impazzisce per trovarlo tra i piedi dei presenti. Secondo Charlie Hodge, invece, con questa frase improvvisata il pubblico, i coristi, i musicisti scoppiano a ridere ed Elvis, anche immaginando la scena, si fa trascinare dall’ilarità di tutti fino al punto di non riuscire a controllarsi. Oltrettutto, avendo Elvis una risata coinvolgente, più rideva lui, più ridevano gli altri. La performance termina con Elvis che dice “Con questa canzone sono andati sprecati 14 anni”
