Dopo il concerto, Elvis torna a Memphis in aereo

Non tanto perché il Colonnello ha fatto capire che per tutto l’anno Elvis potrebbe essere impegnato con il cinema, quanto per un suo esplicito accenno alla possibilità che, entro un anno o due, l’artista potrebbe essere l’attrazione principale del nuovo hotel di Kirk Kerkorian l’MGM Grand, (al momento ancora in costruzione), l’Hilton accetta di pagare Elvis $ 1.300 alla settimana per i prossimi due ingaggi e $ 150.000 per i tre ingaggi successivi.

Inoltre per i prossimi tre anni, l’Hilton pagherà al Colonnello Parker $ 50.000 all’anno, per le sue consulenze .

Elvis torna a Memphis in aereo.

Passa quasi tutte le sere al cinema, ma anche questa volta il teatro è riservato solo alla cerchia di amici e qualche ospite speciale.

Al Memphian, George Klein presenta Elvis a Linda Thompson, una ragazza di Memphis che è appena stata eletta Miss Tennessee. Elvis è attratto dalla sua bellezza e dal suo senso dell’umorismo, così la rivedrà le sere successive.
Per il momento, però, è piuttosto titubante sul da farsi, visto che lei è in partenza per una vacanza di tre settimane con la sua famiglia.
Verso la fine del mese, Elvis avrà degli appuntamenti con un’altra reginetta di bellezza di Memphis, l’attrice Cybill Shepherd

Elvis vola a Los Angeles, per poi proseguire per Palm Springs dove rimane qualche giorno.
Il Colonnello annuncia che, in ottobre/novembre ci sarà una trasmissione televisiva via Satellite, che manderà in onda un concerto di Elvis dalle Hawaii.
“Dal momento che per noi è impossibile suonare in tutte le principali città, Elvis desidera rendere felici tutti i fans del mondo, dando loro l’opportunità di assistere ad un suo concerto” dichiara Parker sul Commercial Appeal di Memphis “”.

Elvis è a Los Angeles dove rimarrà fino al 20 del mese, giorno in cui tornerà a Memphis

Si suppone che oggi sia il giorno in cui, Elvis rilascia un’intervista solo audio per il documentario “On Tour”, dal suo camerino della MGM, anche se si racconta che l’abbia fatta la settimana dopo. In questa intervista Elvis parla candidamente di molte cose, raccontando del suo background musicale e della sua carriera cinematografica per la quale dice “Ci tenevo molto e mi sono dato da fare, fino a che non mi sono “psicologicamente ammalato…… Ritengo che nessuno volesse volontariamente danneggiarmi …….. semplicemente era sbagliata l’immagine di Hollywood che veniva data di me……….. La cosa non mi lasciava indifferente ed ero talmente preoccupato da manifestavo apertamente….. ma non cambiava niente, niente…… al punto che mi sono sentito scoraggiato. Non ci sarebbe stata cifra che potevano pagare, per riuscire farmi sentire soddisfatto dentro”.

Elvis arriva a Memphis, di ritorno dal suo soggiorno a Los Angeles

L’album “Elvis As Recorded At Madison Square Garden” si posiziona al 3° posto nella classifica U.K.

Elvis si fa male ad una caviglia e viene portato al Baptist Memorial Hospital di Memphis, dove gli applicano una cavigliera.

Elvis parte in aereo da Memphis alle 17.45 e, arrivato a Los Angeles, prende una limousine per arrivare in tempo negli studi della RCA, alle prove del suo imminente nuovo ingaggio a Las Vegas, che iniziano alle 21.00

Ormai Elvis è definitivamente separato da Priscilla, anche se il divorzio ufficiale avverrà il 9 ottobre 1973. I giornali riportano che “la cintura nera di karate, Mike Stone, ha distrutto il matrimonio di Elvis e Priscilla”

Elvis è nello Studio C della RCA per le prove che, sia oggi che domani, iniziano alle 19.00

Come ogni volta all’apertura e chiusura di ogni ingaggio a Las Vegas, un camioncino a noleggio preleva tutte le cose di Elvis dalle sue case di Monovale e Hillcrest, per portarle a Las Vegas

31-07-1972

Oggi e domani, Elvis è alle prove per il nuovo ingaggio, presso l’Hotel Hilton di Las Vegas, insieme ai coristi che iniziano alle 14.00, mentre Elvis inizia alle 19.00.

Ad un certo momento di questi tre giorni, Elvis vola a Los Angeles per incontrare Linda Thompson, dopo averla convinta ad andare a Memphis.

Tornano insieme a Las Vegas, dove Linda si fermerà per quasi tutto il periodo dell’ingaggio, pur se durante l’ assenza di Linda, Elvis riceve anche la visita di Cybill Shepherd.
